About Us

Gotham Quilts was born out of the friendship of two fabric nerds in Manhattan.

We met years ago in one of Andrea’s quilting classes, when Ivete fell so hard for quilting she finished three quilts during a 6-week class!

We’ve been great friends ever since, and always talked about the store we thought NYC & modern quilters everywhere were waiting for.

Andrea Deal Headshot
ANDREA DEAL
CO-OWNER
Andrea Deal’s creative pursuits started with cross-stitch and latch-hook projects with her mom. As a teen she designed, sewed and knitted projects for her friends. It is only fitting that she earned a degree in textile design and went on to work for major manufacturers, designing products as varied as quilts and pillows for homes, to carpet and upholstery for office interiors.

Andrea has been teaching sewing and quilting to her students, who range from children all the way to seniors, since 2009. She loves to share her love of all things fabric, especially if she can get someone else hooked in the process. With Gotham Quilts, Andrea gets to use her design knowledge, her passion for teaching, and her awesome skills at picking out fabrics to inspire modern quilters to make their very best quilts.

Andrea likes to collect Orla Kiely handbags (or anything else) and vintage Pyrex. Her favorite fabric is Marimekko, and she's pretty into Carlolyn Freidlander and Emily Cier right now too.

Ivete Tecedor
IVETE TECEDOR
CO-OWNER
Ivete Tecedor was born in Brazil but has lived in and near NYC since she was 10. She’s a life-long crafter who is always doing something, whether it’s knitting, embroidery, or quilting. Along the way she earned a finance degree, managed a knitting store, and became a computer programmer.

Ivete’s favorite part of quilt-making is the quilting itself, especially free-motion quilting on her Bernina. With Gotham Quilts she’ll use her business, retail, and programming skills to make sure the shop is not only her dream place to work, but is also a joy to shop in.

Ivete is a Tula Pink fanatic and loves her longarm machine the best out of the 6 machines she owns.
