Giucy Giuce

Meet the Designer: Giuseppe Ribaudo (Giucy Giuce)

Giuseppe Ribaudo, better known in the quilting world as Giucy Giuce, brings a unique blend of heritage and modern design to the textile industry. Now based in Portland, Maine, Giuseppe is a celebrated fabric designer for FreeSpirit Fabrics, as well as a sought-after lecturer and quilting instructor.

A Heritage of Craftsmanship

Growing up as a first-generation Sicilian-American in Long Island, NY, Giuseppe’s passion for textiles is deeply rooted in his family history. He learned the art of sewing from his grandmother, a remarkably talented seamstress who lived downstairs.

Giuseppe often shares stories of learning in the "Sicilian fashion"—where his grandmother would demonstrate a technique once and expect him to replicate it perfectly within seconds. This rigorous, loving tutelage instilled in him a meticulous eye for detail that is evident in every pattern he designs today.

From Marketing to Modern Design

After bouncing around the country and exploring improvisational quilting, Giuseppe landed in New York City to pursue a career in textiles. He spent years working on the business side of the industry, including a tenure as a multimedia manager for Andover Fabrics, before refocusing his energy entirely on design in 2018.

Today, as a designer for FreeSpirit Fabrics, Giuseppe is known for a style described as "modern traditional." His collections bridge the gap between classic quilting techniques and contemporary aesthetics, making them a favorite among quilters looking for bold prints, geometric precision, and saturated colors.
