THREAD talks is a virtual lecture series featuring a new guest speaker each month.
Lectures are live at 8pm Eastern time on the first Wednesday of each month, and cover all sorts of topics of interest to quilters and makers.

This lecture will take place virtually over Zoom. Once you register, you will receive an email with instructions for logging in. All Talks are in Eastern (NYC) time. Talk will not be recorded.

Meet Laureen Smith
A "recovering corporate director" who traded the boardroom for the sewing room, Laureen Smith brings a unique blend of analytical precision and lifelong artistic passion to the quilting world. By combining her formal engineering education with skills passed down from her mother and grandmother, Laureen creates patterns that are as technically sound as they are visually striking.
Her expertise is backed by a deep commitment to the craft, including a Longarm Certification from APQS and years spent studying under quilting legends like Paul Nadelstern and Carol Doak. Today, Laureen is a sought-after designer for several major fabric manufacturers, translating complex textile collections into accessible, professional patterns.
Based in Dover, DE, Laureen leads the Tourmaline & Thyme team in developing new workshops and memberships that encourage quilters to find the courage to play with color. When she isn't in the studio, she is usually baking up a storm, hiking with friends, or being managed by her two crazy dogs and one very demanding cat.
