Cotton to Consumer

The Journey of a Cotton Boll from the Field to Your Local Quilt Shop. Multi-media presentation of the process of cotton becoming fabric. What is the process of growing cotton, creating fabric, designing fabric, having it printed and delivered to your local quilt shop? Probably much more that you ever considered. You will learn how it's grown and manufactured. You will get insights on how different designers create special lines of fabric, and how manufacturers get their goods into your local quilt shops.

Meet Michelle Tade Benton

Michelle Tade Banton has been quilting and planning events for over 35 years. Describing herself as a Human Quilt Sampler, Michelle has worked in all aspects of event planning from guild shows to regional quilt festivals. She attended International Quilt Market as an Industry Professional. She was a fabric sales rep for a year - learned so much about a whole new aspect of the industry, but decided sales was not her "thing".  She organized and facilitated an annual "Meet the Teachers" event at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, MA for 10 years.  Some of her designs have been displayed in booths at Quilt Market & Festival.  She has donated original quilts to numerous charities.  Retreat planning and bus tours have been another aspect of her involvement in the industry.

More recently, Michelle is the director’s assistant for Art & Soul Mixed Media Retreats. But mostly, she likes to travel and meet other quilters and artists and share her knowledge by presenting lectures or teaching workshops. She’s lived in north central Massachusetts for 32 years, but still considers herself a Midwesterner having grown up in Texas and Wichita, KS.
