THREAD talks is a virtual lecture series featuring a new guest speaker each month.
Lectures are live at 8pm Eastern time on the first Wednesday of each month, and cover all sorts of topics of interest to quilters and makers.

Meet Shannon Fraser
Shannon Fraser is a color and textile enthusiast whose path into the world of quilting began quite unexpectedly. For over 15 years, Shannon navigated a high-pressure corporate career defined by constant travel and high stress. When she eventually stepped away from that world to focus on starting a family, she found herself facing a long and difficult fertility journey.
In the midst of the quiet moments between doctor’s visits, Shannon sought a creative outlet to ground herself and turned to sewing. While she had initially dismissed quilting as a craft that was too slow and overly meticulous, a 2015 YouTube tutorial on half-square triangles changed her perspective entirely. That single video sparked a fascination that quickly evolved into a lifelong passion.
Interestingly, the very elements of quilting Shannon once avoided—the slow pace and the attention to detail—became the exact tools she needed to heal and recharge. Today, Shannon embraces the process of quilting as a way to reconnect with her creative instincts, proving that sometimes the "slow" road is the most rewarding one.
